"High-risk" is a label about how closely we watch, not a prediction about how things will end. Most high-risk pregnancies end well. It means more visits, more scans, and a lower threshold for acting.
What puts a pregnancy in this group
Diabetes or high blood pressure, whether before the pregnancy or developing during it; a difficult previous pregnancy or a previous loss; twins; certain findings on a scan; and some long-term conditions. Age on its own is a factor but rarely the only one.
Being told your pregnancy is high-risk is frightening, and the word does a lot of work it does not deserve. We will tell you specifically what the concern is, what we are watching for, and what we would do if we saw it.
How the care differs
More frequent visits, more growth scans, and sometimes input from a physician alongside the obstetrician. If your pregnancy needs a level of newborn care we cannot provide, we will tell you early and arrange it elsewhere rather than late and in an emergency.
What it costs
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| High-risk antenatal care | ₹25,000–75,000 | Depends on how much monitoring is needed. |
Charges at Pearl Women's Super Speciality Hospital and IVF/ICSI Center as of September 2026. You are told what anything costs before it is done, and nothing is billed that you have not agreed to.
Questions we are asked most
Does high-risk mean I will need a caesarean?
Not necessarily. It means we watch more closely. The mode of delivery is decided on what is actually happening, discussed with you, and not settled in advance by a label.
Can I still be seen at Pearl?
In most cases yes. Where a pregnancy needs a level of newborn intensive care beyond what we provide, we will tell you early and arrange the right place, rather than waiting for an emergency.
