Prenatal diagnosis

Diagnostic testing where screening or history raises a specific question.

Where screening has raised a question, or where there is a known condition in the family, a diagnostic test can give a definite answer. It carries a small risk, so the decision is made carefully and never hurried.

Counselling comes first, always

Before any diagnostic test, you will have a proper conversation about what it can tell you, what it cannot, the small risk it carries, and — most importantly — what you would do with each possible result. That conversation is the part that matters.

Nobody is ever pressed into a diagnostic test, and declining one does not change the rest of your care.

What it is never used for

Prenatal diagnostic techniques may not be used to determine the sex of the foetus. This is prohibited by the PC&PNDT Act, 1994, and Pearl does not do it under any circumstances.

What it costs

Prenatal diagnosis — charges
ItemCostNotes
Genetic counselling₹1,500Required first.
Diagnostic procedure and laboratory₹12,000–30,000Depends on the test.

Charges at Pearl Women's Super Speciality Hospital and IVF/ICSI Center as of September 2026. You are told what anything costs before it is done, and nothing is billed that you have not agreed to.

Questions we are asked most

Is the procedure risky?

There is a small risk of miscarriage associated with diagnostic procedures. We will give you the current figure for the specific test being discussed, and it is a central part of the decision.

Can I say no?

Yes, at any point, including after you have agreed. Your care does not change.
