Genetic counselling

Understanding what a test can and cannot tell you, before you have it.

Reviewed by

Dr. Jigna Jasoliya
GMC Reg. G/25348 · Updated August 2026

A conversation about inherited conditions — before a pregnancy, during one, or after a result that needs explaining. Its purpose is to help you decide, not to tell you what to do.

When it is useful

Where a condition runs in your family, where you and your partner are related by blood, after repeated miscarriage, after a screening result that needs explaining, or before any preimplantation or prenatal testing.

What it is not

It is not a service that tells you whether to continue a pregnancy, and it is not a route to selecting any characteristic of a child. Sex selection is prohibited by law and we do not perform it.

What it costs

Genetic counselling — charges
ItemCostNotes
Genetic counselling₹1,500
Genetic tests, if you choose themQuoted case by caseDepends entirely on the test. You are told the cost before anything is sent.

Charges at Pearl Women's Super Speciality Hospital and IVF/ICSI Center as of September 2026. You are told what anything costs before it is done, and nothing is billed that you have not agreed to.

Questions we are asked most

What should I bring?

Whatever you know about health conditions in your family on both sides — even vague recollections are useful. Any previous test results if you have them.

Will you tell us what to do?

No. We will make sure you understand the options and what each one means, and the decision stays yours.
