Before you try — pre-pregnancy counselling

One visit before trying, to sort out what is easier to sort out now.

A single visit before you start trying is one of the most useful appointments in the whole of obstetrics, and one of the least used. Some things are far easier to address before a pregnancy than during one.

What it covers

Folic acid and when to start it, your vaccination status, blood group, thyroid, haemoglobin, and diabetes where relevant. A review of any medicines you take — some need changing before conception rather than after.

If there is a condition in your family that runs in families, this is the point to talk about it, when there is time and no pressure.

What it costs

Before you try — pre-pregnancy counselling — charges
ItemCostNotes
Consultation₹500
Blood tests, if indicated₹1,000

Charges at Pearl Women's Super Speciality Hospital and IVF/ICSI Center as of September 2026. You are told what anything costs before it is done, and nothing is billed that you have not agreed to.

Questions we are asked most

When should I come?

About three months before you plan to start trying. That gives time for folic acid to be useful and for any medicine changes to settle.
