The weeks after a birth are the ones people prepare for least. Care continues after you go home: a check on your recovery, help with feeding, and an honest conversation about how you are coping.
What we check
Your recovery and any stitches, bleeding, blood pressure, and how feeding is going. If you are struggling to feed, that is a thing to come in about, not to endure — it is one of the most common reasons for an unscheduled visit and one of the most fixable.
We ask about mood, and we mean the question. Low mood after birth is common, it is not a failure, and it is treatable. Say so if it applies to you.
Contraception
Worth deciding before you need it. We will go through the options that are compatible with feeding, and there is no pressure to choose anything on the day.

Questions we are asked most
When should I come back?
Within about a week of going home, and again at six weeks. Come sooner, without waiting for an appointment, if you have heavy bleeding, fever, severe pain, or feel very unwell.
I am struggling to feed. Is that worth a visit?
Yes, absolutely, and sooner rather than later. It is common and it is usually fixable with practical help.
