Vaginoplasty, perineoplasty and pelvic floor repair

Repair of the vagina, perineum and pelvic floor after childbirth or surgery.

Childbirth stretches and sometimes tears the vagina, the perineum and the muscles that support them. For many women the body recovers well. For some, problems remain — a feeling of looseness or heaviness, a scar that hurts, or leaking — and these can be repaired.

The procedures

Vaginoplasty repairs and narrows the vaginal canal and its supporting tissue. Perineoplasty repairs the area between the vagina and the anus, often after a tear or episiotomy that healed poorly. Vulvovaginoplasty combines repair or reshaping of the vulva and vagina. Prolapse repair treats organs that have descended because their support has weakened.

Why women consider it

A bulge or heaviness, difficulty keeping a tampon in, wind or air from the vagina, leaking, pain from scar tissue, or a canal that has felt wider since delivery. Repair for prolapse and leaking is well established. Where the main aim is a change in sensation, the results reported are mixed, and we will say so before you decide.

Before surgery

An examination and an honest conversation about your priorities. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is often tried first, and is sometimes enough. Plans for more children matter: a later pregnancy and delivery can undo a repair.

Who performs it

Every procedure in this unit is performed at Pearl by Dr. Jigna Jasoliya and Dr. Hardik Vansjaliya together, with female staff present throughout.

Questions we are asked most

What are the risks?

Bleeding, infection, pain, scarring, pain during intercourse (including from over-narrowing), injury to the bladder or bowel, and a need for further surgery.

When can I resume intercourse?

Usually after about six to eight weeks, once the review shows healing is complete.

Should I finish having children first?

Generally yes, where the repair is not urgent. We will discuss the timing with you.

Will anyone else know why I came?

No. Consultations in this unit are private, your records are confidential, and the front desk books the visit as a gynaecology consultation. You do not have to explain your reason to anyone but the doctor.
