The years around the menopause are widely under-treated, largely because women are told to expect them and get on with it. Symptoms that disrupt sleep, work or relationships are worth treating.
Perimenopause
The transition often starts years before periods stop, with cycles becoming irregular and symptoms coming and going. Many women are told they are "too young" for this. Often they are not.
What can be done
There are several approaches, hormonal and non-hormonal, and the right one depends on your symptoms, your medical history and what matters most to you. We will go through the benefits and the risks of each properly, with figures, rather than a general reassurance or a general warning.
This is also the point to think about bone and heart health, which is the part of menopause care that gets least attention and matters for longest.

Questions we are asked most
Am I too young for this?
Perimenopause commonly begins in the forties and sometimes earlier. If your cycle has changed and you have symptoms, it is worth a conversation regardless of your age.
Is hormone treatment safe?
It depends on you — your history, your age and your symptoms. There are real benefits and real risks and they differ from woman to woman. We will go through both with actual numbers rather than a blanket answer.
Bleeding has restarted after a year with no periods. Should I come in?
Yes, promptly. Bleeding after the menopause always needs to be looked at. It is usually nothing serious, but it is not something to wait on.
