IUI places prepared sperm directly into the uterus around the time an egg is released. It is simpler, cheaper and less demanding than IVF, and it is the reasonable next step when the tubes are open and the sperm count is only mildly reduced.
When IUI is worth trying
IUI is generally considered when at least one fallopian tube is open, the sperm count and movement are only mildly below normal, or where no specific cause has been found. It is not the right treatment where both tubes are blocked or where the sperm count is very low — in those situations it is unlikely to help and we will say so rather than take your money.
IUI is usually tried for a limited number of cycles before moving on. Repeating it indefinitely is not a plan; we will agree a number with you at the start.
What it costs
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| One IUI cycle | ₹3,000–5,000 | Includes the scans and the procedure. |
| Medicines | ₹1,200 | Varies with the dose you need. |
| Semen preparation | Included | Not billed separately. |
Charges at Pearl Women's Super Speciality Hospital and IVF/ICSI Center as of September 2026. You are told what anything costs before it is done, and nothing is billed that you have not agreed to.
Questions we are asked most
Does IUI hurt?
Most people describe it as similar to a smear test — brief pressure and mild cramping that settles within an hour. No anaesthetic is needed and you can drive yourself home.
How many cycles should we try?
We agree a number at the start, usually a small one, and review honestly at that point rather than continuing by default. If IUI has not worked within the agreed cycles, repeating it further is rarely the right answer.
Do I need to rest afterwards?
No. Bed rest after IUI does not improve the chance of pregnancy. Go back to your normal day.
